Strip seal expansion joint is one type of expansion joint or open bridge connection. Like other joints, the expansion strip seal is useful as a means of connecting between bridge joints or commonly called girders.
The strip seal joint has a hollow shape or gap at the top. Gap is the maximum term for horizontal movement at a bridge joint. The larger the gap strip seal, the more the joint will be able to withstand the wider horizontal or sideways movement of the bridge.
