In general, this strip seal expansion is able to accommodate the movements generated by shrinkage of concrete and creep, shortening of posttensioning, thermal variations, dead and live loads, wind and seismic loads and settlement structures. Shrinkage of concrete, shortening of post-tensioning and thermal variation are generally taken into account explicitly in design calculations. The material of the open expansion strip type of seal mounted on the concrete consists of a synthetic rubber profile that is mechanically fixed and locked to a steel profile. Steel profiles can be mounted on reinforced concrete.
